CASA SOMBRA
CHILE
“Architecture, art of shadows”
Designed for a couple in their thirties, the house is located in the Southern Hemisphere, in the central part of Chile.
The house layout captures natural luminosity across the daytime (morning, day, evening and night), and aligns with the light sources’ orbits (sun, moon, stars), achieving the desired shades for the house’s activities. The layout is thus organized into three main areas: resting to the East; living to the North and working to the West. To the South, the house cuts into the terrain, having the roof at the level of the natural gradient, integrating the tilted green roof with the natural landscape. In the centre, the lounge area with a terrace, and cantilevers over a pool, allowing views of the sunrise and sunset (East and West) and the valley down below towards the North-East.
