NEWLANDS HOUSE GALLERY
WEST SUSSEX
Newlands House is a Grade II* Listed property built in the late C18 in Petworth, West Sussex. The property was originally built as a private residence for Dr Newlands and after many conversions throughout the years it has been recently converted into a prestigious Art Gallery. The Gallery has been granted museum status in early 2021 and since, valuable artwork is exhibited there.
Dublanc Studio had repaired the building extensively in the past and have recently been to:
a) finalise design and supervise the erection of a glazed extension for a Café / Restaurant and Shop, for which Dublanc Studio had secured previous planning consent.
b) design and implement improvements on accessibility, environmental control and energy saving. The aim of the project is to ensure full accessibility for the two floors of exhibition space involving installation of lifts and ramps. The internal environment in the Gallery is to be controlled to achieve desired humidity and temperature depending on the exhibits’ media: i.e., inks, pencil, oil, acrylic, etc. Environmental engineers have been consulted on natural ventilation strategy, along with air conditioning, insulation of the fabric, etc.
c) the commission also involves the upgrade of the cellars to enable usage as dry storage, with natural ventilation and intake of natural light.
